Recording studios in Utah schools

Four of the five Audio House recording studios sit at partner schools in Utah, and students at those schools record free. You get a private room, a professional microphone, a keyboard, free beats, and software that walks you through every step. No experience needed, no engineer, no cost. Which schools have a studio

Audio House has five locations across Utah. Four of them are at partner schools. The fifth, in Eagle Mountain, is partnered with Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce and chamber members may get access benefits.

What students get, exactly

Free means free. There is no trial period and no catch. Students at partner schools record at no charge.

Here is what is in the room:

• Professional microphones, already set up
• A MIDI keyboard
• A library of free beats and background music
• Software that guides you through recording, step by step
• Automatic polishing of your recording as you work

You do not need to bring recording gear, but bring whatever instruments you will need for your song. You do not need to know anything about recording before you walk in. The software is designed for someone doing this for the first time.

The room is private. Nobody else is in there with you. No instructor watching, no other students listening. Many students say that privacy is the thing that makes it possible to actually perform, to try a take, get it wrong, and go again without feeling watched.

How a student gets access

Access runs through the Audio House app at audiohouse.app. You create an account with your school email address, confirm your student status, and book a time slot. The room is yours for that time.

If you are a parent helping a younger student set this up, the process is the same. Open the app, create the account with the student's school email, and book. The /studios page shows which location belongs to your school.

If you are a teacher and want to bring this to your students' attention, the clearest thing you can do is point them to this page and to /studios. To access the teacher portal, ask your designated administrator for access to the Host app. Students may book individually through the app.

What students actually make

The studio does not lock you into one kind of project. Students use it for:

• Original songs. Write something, record the vocals, add a beat from the free library.
• Covers. Sing or play a song you already know. The room is private, so you can practise and record as many times as you want.
• Spoken word and poetry. The microphone is just as good for spoken performance as it is for singing.
• Instrumentals. Use the keyboard to build something, or bring your own melody and layer it over a free background track.
• Class projects. Oral presentations, recorded readings, audio essays. The software captures clean audio without any setup on your part.
• Practice recordings. Many students use the room not to make a finished thing, but to hear themselves and improve. Hearing a playback of your own voice is one of the fastest ways to get better.

You do not need to arrive with a finished idea. Many students come in with a voice note on their phone, a few lyrics, or just a melody they have been humming. That is enough to start.

How long a session takes

You book by the hour. One hour is enough to record a short song, a spoken word piece, or a demo of something you want to develop further. If you want more time, you book more hours.

Because the room is private and the software guides you, there is no pressure to work fast. You can try a take, listen back, and try again. That back-and-forth is what makes a recording good, and you have the time to do it.

Students who are not at a partner school can still use Audio House. The first hour at any location is free for anyone. After that, the rate depends on how much time you book. The calculator at /estimate gives you the exact figure. The /free-hour page has details on the first-hour offer.

A note for parents and teachers

Audio House opened in 2018. The school partnerships exist because we believe that access to a real recording space should not depend on a student's budget or their school's resources. A private room with professional equipment, at no cost, is a different kind of opportunity than a classroom exercise.

Students who use the studio are not just making recordings. They are learning what it feels like to finish something, to hear their own voice clearly, and to decide they want to make another one. That tends to matter beyond the music.
