Recording Using Your Own Laptop

Every Audio House studio has a computer and DAW available to use, but you may already have experience recording with another DAW on your own laptop. Choosing to use your own laptop also keeps your files 100% separate from anyone who may be using the provided Audio House computer.

Preparation

You’ll need to download the drivers for the Audio Interface onto your laptop before arriving at the studio. You can safely download the drivers on Focusrite’s official website here:

https://downloads.focusrite.com/focusrite/scarlett-3rd-gen/scarlett-18i20-3rd-gen

Click the link, select your operating system, then click download.

Plug In

If you downloaded the drivers before arriving at the studio then plugging in is easy.

Find the bright red cable on the desk and plug it into your laptop.

That’s it.

Setup

Load up your DAW, and use your DAW’s audio preferences to enable the Interface.

Since every DAW is different we don’t supply specific instructions here, but the Focusrite Scarlett is an extremely common audio interface. If you run into problems just search “setup Focusrite Scarlett on [insert your DAW here]” on google and you’ll find the answer. (Hot tip: make sure your sound settings are on ASIO instead of Direct Sound or System Default)

Check to make sure your mic input is detecting the mic, and you’re ready to go!
